I was being a little silly today, coming home from work, but this illustrates a good point about living here that locals tend to take for granted. Everywhere you turn, there’s a gorgeous mountain, river, or forest. I remember years ago, my sister brought her soon to be husband up for a visit. They’d been living in Southern California and on weekends, he would say, “hey let’s go hiking up into the mountains.” And she would continuously say, “Those are NOT mountains.” Well, they landed at PDX, and set off down the 205 for the Washington side, and as they were crossing the bridge over the Columbia, my sister pointed out Mt. Hood, which was having a particularly glorious day, and said, “That is a mountain!”
He was careful never to make that mistake again.
